Get involved

Everyone underwater can help.

Whether you dive twice a year or run a marine lab, there's a way to add to the record.

Log your dives, build the record

The single most useful thing you can do is record what you see. Download the DiveSight app, start your Sealife List, and every dive you log adds to a growing record of ocean life that can inform conservation.

Become a partner operator

Dive shops and clubs are where local knowledge lives. Partner with us to surface your sites, encourage your divers to log sightings, and help train the next wave of citizen scientists.

Co-design a survey

If you run surveys, manage a marine protected area, or study coastal ecosystems, we'll help you design dive surveys that gather exactly the observations you need — and mobilize divers to collect them to inform your conservation work.

Back the mission

We're building the Institute's programs and capacity now. If you'd like to support diver-powered marine conservation — or hear when giving opens — tell us. We'll keep you posted as the initiative grows.

DiveSight Institute is an emerging initiative and is not yet a registered charity; contributions of time and data are the most valuable ways to help today. Questions? Reach us anytime at hello@divesight.org.

REEF Conservation Partner 2026 — Reef Environmental Education Foundation

DiveSight Institute is a proud Conservation Partner of the Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF). Their Volunteer Fish Survey Project has divers logging what they see using a shared method — turning everyday dives into one of the largest marine-life databases in the world. Here’s how to join it:

  1. 1

    Become a REEF member — it's free.

Register at reef.org to get a member number, then use it to track your own surveys and build a life list of everything you've identified.

  2. 2

    Learn the survey method.

REEF's Volunteer Fish Survey Project uses the Roving Diver Technique and simple abundance categories. There's no required certification — free training and fish-ID resources get you started, and you advance through experience levels as you go.

  3. 3

Log surveys — on your dives with us and beyond.

Record what you see on any dive and submit it to REEF. Log the same sightings in the DiveSight app and you're helping build both records at once.
